The Dude wants to know… Were you ever into britpop?

Did you ever get into the late 90′s britpop thing? I really got into BLUR. I didn’t “get” them until I heard “Song 2″ (which you may know as the one that goes “WOO-HOO! When I feel heavy metal. WOO-HOO! And I”m pins and I’m needles. WOO-HOO!…”) Suddenly it all made sense to me. But I haven’t listened to them in probably 8 years. I link to this 2 CD set popped-up in my Facebook ads and I really enjoyed listening to all the samples. SO many songs I forgot about completely! Songs like “Blue Jeans” “Badhead” and “Strange News from Another Star”. Brilliant stuff. I’m glad I had some distance from it, but I think I’m ready to pick it up again.

If you aren’t familiar with their stuff, listen to samples here.

The Dude really wants to know what you think of it. Does it sound dated to you? Do you dig it?

The Daily Vinyl video #22: “Loving Cup” by The Rolling Stones

Yer gonna wanna kick back, relax, and drink a latte from your loving cup. (What a beautiful buzz!)

Thanks to Bongo Java in East Nashville for letting me barge into their space. Everyone there must’ve thought me a complete lunatic. (“WTF is this Dude doing back here with his record player?”)

Although it’s a fair question… WTF am I doing? Half the time I don’t even know myself. I’m just having fun & being creative. I’m glad I’m doing this. It’s a helluva lotta work sometimes, especially when I spend all day trying to upload a video. But once it goes live and people give 5-star ratings and great comments, it’s ALL worth it. Thanks for sharing the links.

This is definitely one of my favorite Stones songs. I actually first heard it on a Phish bootleg tape. I thought it was so brilliant and had no idea who originally did it. (I could tell it wasn’t Phish.) Then I picked up this LP for .99 (missing record #2) and couldn’t get enough!

(18 mind-blowing tracks for $9.50. Pretty sweet!)

The Daily Vinyl video #21: “I Am The Walrus” by The Beatles

Today, The Daily Vinyl is taking you to a magical mystery garden!!! Simply allow yourself to be mesmerized by the spinning vinyl and imagine the garden coming to life.

“I Am The Walrus” was released in 1967 and the highlight of The Beatles self-made movie “Magical Mystery Tour.” The song features the line “sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun,” which was my inspiration for this Daily Vinyl video. Enjoy!

Here's a fun idea. Go to the following link and listen to excerpts of 77 Cover Versions of "I Am The Walrus"!

Of course, you’re gonna wanna pre-order the remastered “Magical Mystery Tour”

The Daily Vinyl video #20: “Rosalita” by The Boss

My wife took an unfinished wooden table and had a vision that it could be beautiful. She took to East Nashville’s Art & Invention and started work. Once I saw it, I knew I just had to film a video while she worked. I let her pick out the song and since she’s a huge Springsteen fan, well… that’s what we got. Of course the finished table is featured in VINYL VIDEO #13: “Wilco (The Song)” by Wilco

Amazon has a great price on The Essential Bruce Springsteen. Download 42 songs for only $14. (whispering..."it's a bargain!")

The Daily Vinyl video #19: “I Feel Fine ” b/w “She’s a Woman” by The Beatles

Today’s Vinyl Video features the very first “guest record player.” While hanging out in my neighborhood guitar shop (Fanny’s House of Music in East Nashville, TN), I discovered their collection of 45s and this classic turntable. We gathered some vintage guitars (including a Hofner “Paul” bass knock-off… can you spot it?) and proceeded to have a Beatles blast! Here is one of my favorite pre-Rubber Soul tracks. The A-side is “I Feel Fine” and the B-side is a great McCartney rocker “She’s a Woman.”

I’m so excited about this….

The Dude is bummed that they don’t have The Beatles Rock Band video game for The Intellivision.

The Daily Vinyl video #18: “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas

Filmed at the Nashville Center for Spiritual Living and featuring Dr. Mitch Johnson with the meditation. Check it out… Carry On Wayward Son

One month of The Daily Vinyl!!!

31 days and 17 vinyl videos later! Woo-hoo! This is such a fun project. But I’ve got to get some other work done for this week. Hopefully new videos will be released by next week. (I’ve got lots of great ideas, just gotta get the time!) Keep checking back. In the meantime, join in the discussion in the “your musical memories” section. Or get this popular vinyl-to-USB converter. Looks cool.

I use an audio CD burner to convert my vinyl. It’s a little more tedious. I’d love to pick this up! Let me know if it’s any good.
